Another household appliance bites the dust

Last year we were on a roll with household appliances dying. We had to replace our washing machine, dishwasher, furnace, and hot water heater. The joys of home ownership! This year, thankfully (and knock on wood), we haven't had much trouble. After all, we've replaced almost everything that could break!
Well all except for our food disposer. We've known that it was slowly dying for the past few years, but it hasn't quit until now. Tomorrow we'll go look for a new one, and thankfully they are much less expensive than everything we had to replace last year. Has anyone been in the market for one of these lately? Any tips on what to look for?

When we remodeled our kitchen at our old house, we were told that the cheaper ones were just as good as the more expensive garbage disposals. So, we got a cheaper one and thought it was fine.
Now that I'm in this current house, Oscar had put in a Kitchenaid disposal and it is quite powerful! It vibrates the counter when it's on! It's great.

Thanks Heather! I wasn't sure what to look for.

Yes, this is why we like not owning a house anymore... :) When we bought our house in PA, within the first month we had to replace the carpets and flooring throughout the whole house, even some sub-flooring; toilets, windows, furnace, air conditioning, water pump; we had to pull down all the old wallpaper (which was GLUED on) and repaint all the walls...plus the fun of getting rid of wasps nests in the basement, mice in the attic, mosquito nests ALL around the house, squirrels living under the porch and deck, carpenter ants living under the formica of the kitchen counters... he he he...

Wow, after all that, and Emily's comment, it makes me scared to own our own home! We're VERY glad we didn't buy when we moved here for school, and that we don't have to worry about selling it now! But, all the good things about having a home are very enticing! Good luck finding and replacing! Hope nothing else breaks this year!
